“A Glass of Fashion”
Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site 2
Plymouth Notch, Vermont
Seasonal Exhibition
Project Description
The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation selected CGD to design and coordinate the production of First Lady Grace Coolidge: “A Glass of Fashion”. In the context of “Roaring Twenties” style, the exhibit explored Mrs. Coolidge’s role in establishing the First Lady as a high profile fashion trendsetter.
In addition to content-specific layouts for three wall panels, the exhibit featured images of the First Lady in full regalia, reproduced as edge-to-edge, translucent window covers. “Still life” compositions of jewelry, accessories, and gowns in the room’s four display cases documented Grace Coolidge’s world-class connoisseurship. CGD created the exhibit’s focal point by installing Mrs. Coolidge’s extraordinarily heavy gold beaded gown on a floating glass shelf in the center case.
CGD collaborated closely at all stages of the project with VDHP personnel and principal fabricator, The Digital Image Works.
