Changeable Displays
Project Description
The Thayer School of Engineering asked CGD to design a changeable display of student projects for permanent installation in the lobby of its Venturi, Scott Brown-designed addition. The interchangeable, Velcro-based mounting system developed for the Hopkins Center Design Workshops was adapted to the three-dimensional requirements of the Thayer School’s glass-enclosed lobby bay. A new project can replace an older project in an existing layout slot, or the entire display can be reconfigured to accommodate a new collection of engineering projects. Project photographs are keyed to text descriptions on a floor-mounted panel angled for easy reading.
The Development Office at the Thayer School then asked CGD to generate a concept for donor and overseer displays that could easily be updated by office staff. The solution combines raised non-glare laminated acrylic panels within hardwood frames that allow for the removal and insertion of laser-printed text pages. The subsurface color of the insert panels and the frame finishes were coordinated to complement the interior scheme of VSB’s second floor renovation.
