Designing Under the Influence
Courtyard Cafe
Hanover, New Hampshire
Custom Paperware
Project Description
Influences are welcome ingredients in the design process when they are appropriate to the problem and have been thoroughly digested and assimilated.
When the Courtyard Cafe asked Charles Gibson to create a set of custom paperware as part of a major renovation of its serving and seating areas, the Designer drew upon the spacial dynamics, geometric forms, and bold colors of Russian Constructivism. Cups, plates, and trays are unified by a shared motif of dots, lines, and planes that are read simultaneously as abstract elements and as culinary ingredients.
