Conversation Across the Generations
Lyme Properties LLC
23 South Main Street
Exterior Identity and Interior Wayfinding Program
Project Description
As part of a total renovation of 23 South Main Street in Hanover, Charles Gibson Design worked closely with UK Architects, PC, a primary tenant, and Lyme Properties LLC, owner/tenant, to create a comprehensive identity and wayfinding plan.
On the exterior transom, large sans serif numerals play a dominant role in announcing and reinforcing the entry to pedestrians and Main Street traffic. Visitors move from the vestibule directory to the second floor where a pair of ceiling-mounted directionals indicates office locations to the left and right. Elevator lobby directories guide visitors from the rear entrance.
Office suites are differentiated with bold door-mounted dimensional numbers and tenant-specific identity graphics, completing the wayfinding process.
The sign program’s typography and stainless steel finished panels extend the modernist vocabulary of the architectural renovation. Dramatic contrast with the exposed masonry of the existing South Main Street entry and interior corridors sets up a lively “conversation across the generations.”
