Logo for Patient Information Software
Project Description
Charles Gibson Design was asked to create a logo for CIS, a software group within Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The group’s principal product is used extensively by caregivers to manage patient records and to facilitate the sharing of electronic information.
The logo symbolizes the character of CIS on several levels. The tightly knit juxtaposition of the three letters suggests the close communication made possible by the software; the pencil, while doubling as the letter “i”, symbolizes the act of traditional note taking; the green of the letter “S” references Dartmouth’s official color; the texture in the tail of the letter “S” suggests speed of communication; and the intersection of the S’s tail with the i/pencil suggests a medical cross, symbolic of the caregiving function.
A primary application of the logo is to mark the opening of the CIS computer program for caregivers at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
CGD employs an rigorous development process for each of its graphic identity projects. In the conceptual phase, a diversity of approaches is explored. Once the best concept is identified and approved by the Designer and Client, variations in color and form are generated until the design is fully resolved.
