​Charles Gibson Design is uniquely qualified to provide and coordinate design services for community-specific EV infrastructure.

CGD’s expertise was developed in the course of collaborating on a prize-winning entry in the EVAC competition. The guidelines asked each team of entrants to address the following challenge: “Create a broad and compelling vision of a future infrastructure which will provide excellent support for electric vehicles and help improve the quality of life in an American community.”

The team included: Susan Phillips-Hungerford and Daniel V. Scully, architects; Peter Ryner, town planner; Alan N. Saucier, landscape architect; and Graham Walter, electrical engineer. As the team’s visual communications designer, Charles Gibson was responsible for development of the “Big E” icon and graphic infrastructure that would identify the presence of EV charging facilities from the level of interstate signage to parking facilities and the charging hardware itself.

The competition’s awards booklet included the following comments about this entry:

“The First Award-winning team from Keene, New Hampshire, emphasized the potential for electric vehicles to help small communities develop their downtowns, which in many towns have engaged in a losing battle with shopping mall and office park development on their periphery. The team proposed zoning incentives for downtown developers willing to provide electric vehicle charging facilities, dedicated parking, and related service and retail activities.”
