Library with a Vision
Howe Library
Hanover, New Hampshire
Comprehensive Wayfinding and Architectural Graphics Program
Project Description
At the core of the program, donor recognition is implemented via expandable displays, space-specific panels, and “hybrid” donor/ADA plaques. Incised slate panels are set into custom birch frames finished to match the library’s engineered-wood structural system. The donor plaques celebrate their connection to the wall with custom, and completely operational, mounting hardware.
A system of circular, shelf-mounted flags was created to make navigation among the stacks both easier and visually fun. The owl motif appears repeatedly as a unifying element on flags in the children’s area. Flag markers for the Library’s media collections are mounted on movable ebonized bases to accommodate shelving changes.
