Wolf Trap Farm Park
Nearly a decade later, this fruitful association was renewed when Wolf Trap commissioned CGD to design their season souvenir poster. Charles Gibson’s concept draws upon the quilt artform as metaphor for the patchwork of blankets, tablecloths, lawn chairs, and picnics– typical of Wolf Trap’s summer audiences. A grid of hand-cut “found” textures was meticulously constructed in the manner of classic American quilts and overlayed with a freshly redrawn logo. Colors were juxtaposed to create an overall axial geometry that evokes the pulsating dynamic of a kaleidescope. A prominent role for the Client‘s iconic logo ensured that the poster would have a “shelf life” well beyond a single season in Wolf Trap’s gift shop and in the homes of concertgoers. Following the poster’s successful debut, Wolf Trap adapted the quilted logo image to T-shirts and coffee mugs.
